The principle of using distilled water is based on boiling the water, and for the Nautilus it is based on a heating element within the boiling chamber. The boiled water then rises as steam and passes through the vents at the top of the distiller. Hard minerals such as limescale are retained within the boiling chamber, and the steam is condensed back into it's liquid form with the aid of a cooling fan at the top. This then passes through a carbon filter which removes a high percentage of the contaminants mentioned above and also the retained gases within the water and distilled water is collected in a separate collecting container.
